80’s Baby …..
I remember when I was a kid…. and we had one phone -for everyone to share! It was attached to the wall so you had to stay in one place - (the kitchen) the entire time you talked. I remember when MTV played music videos. I remember when food stamps were paper, bad was actually good & the distinct sound of a needle touching the vinyl of Michael Jackson’s Thriller album.
“My biggest problem was how I was getting to Silver City Skating Rink on Saturday night.”
|Me & Chy circa 1989|
At the risk of sounding like an old lady, (which I know I do!) Life was so much simpler back then. Growing up in TG was fun; my biggest problem was how I was getting to Silver City Skating Rink on Saturday night, or whether or not Shannon’s mom was going to let me sleep over for the weekend. I’m not longing for days gone by - just appreciating them.
Yesterday, as Koy & I watched re-runs of Family Matters, (TGIF!) we were amazed at how wholesome television used to be. I guess we never thought of our generation as wholesome, but by comparison, with today’s reality shows and the “Look at me! Look at me!!” mentality, the 80’s-90’s were actually really chaste.
This week has been especially stressful. Seeing those re-runs yesterday really took me back to a happy place. It’s a therapeutic distraction - just kicking back & reminiscing about all things 80’s and 90’s.
